Cure for every issue- Kos
In ancient times, King Perdiccas II of Macedonia caught a serious illness, and could not find a cure. His condition got worse and worse, and no one could help him. Finally, a famous physician was found for his treatment, and seas and mountains were crossed. The physician examined King Perdiccas and realized that the illness was not physical, but had an emotional and mental cause. He understood that the King had a great concern that he constantly carried in his mind and kept secret. The real reason for the illness was that the King had been afraid for a long time that he would be killed by his brother. The physician, who learned this, had an open and honest conversation with the King and told him that this fear was groundless because his brother was loyal to him. Although the King did not want to believe it at first, he had no other choice so he had to follow the doctor's advice and recovered in a short time.
This famous physician was none other than Hippocrates, who was known for his deep understanding and wisdom in the field of medicine, which dealt with not only the physical but also the emotional and mental dimensions of diseases.
Isn’t it strange? In 460 BC, no matter how different the conditions, cultures and countries were, the problems related to people remained the same. Everyone thought their micro problems were unique in the macro system. I heard somewhere that a person can only be truly ‘good’ when their body, thoughts and emotions overlap. In fact, Chinese medicine evaluates the health of an individual physically, mentally and spiritually for this very reason. As an interesting piece of information, the concept of body clocks comes to the fore in Chinese medicine. According to this theory, each organ of the body has maximum energy and functionality at certain times of the day. For example; the liver: It is most active between 1:00 and 3:00 at night. Therefore, being asleep during these hours is important for the liver to cleanse and renew itself. For example, our stomach is most active between 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning, so it is recommended to have breakfast between these hours. After this free association, let’s come to our main hero Hippocrates :)
Hippocrates, the ancient father of Western medicine, who was born 1200 years ago on the island of Kos in the Aegean Sea of Greece, and to whom my father, brothers and my extended family swore an oath, established the basic principles of medicine and argued that diseases were not caused by God's wrath but were based on natural causes. No matter how you look at it, he was a great scientist for that period. I'm sure the island inspired him with its greenery and sea :)
I was here…
If you type things to see on Kos Island into your search engine, you can see Hippocrates’ tree at the top of the list. Sources say that the physician gave lessons to his students under this tree and taught the science of medicine. This tree is also a kind of pilgrimage for medical students and physicians even today. And it is said that its seedlings are planted in different parts of the world. It is believed that the tree is approximately 400-600 years old, and that even if it was not planted at that time, this place, this atmosphere is sacred and special. The tree is already so old, but here it is like proof of saying ‘I was there’…
Kos Island, which you can cross from Bodrum by car-free ferry in half an hour, is an island that loves tourists and is aware of its beauty, if you look at the number of people who speak English. But I am not sure if there is a place on the Aegean coast that is not beautiful. Therefore, due to its geography, its sea is very beautiful, and its food, especially Greek cuisine, is delicious for those who love seafood. I think the Aegean is a special place, no matter where you are, for example, think of Bozcaada. It is written in mythology that this place is the closest to the sun. This belief is most likely related to Helios (Sun God) in Greek mythology. It was thought that the Sun God Helios roamed the sky with his chariot throughout the day and that the place where he rose every morning was very close to Bozcaada. Isn’t it very impressive? If you go to Zia village for sunset from Kos Island, you can watch how beautifully the sun sets moment by moment. Sometimes it seems to me that the sun sets differently everywhere, or I attribute this meaning to the sun because I am different everywhere:) if you want to watch the magnificent view of the island, feel like you are in a vast sky and eat delicious food, I definitely recommend that you make a reservation by e-mail before going to the ‘Oromedon’ restaurant.

We stayed at a spot very close to Tigaki Beach, 7km from the center of the island, with a close group of friends, without moving around much, with little movement and lots of energy. If you stay close to this touristic area, you will be one step away from beaches, restaurants, pubs, the entertainment of English and German tourists, and even getting a massage while lying on a sunbed on the beach :) I especially recommend Alikes and Taverna Nisiotiko, which we really like as a team in this area, and I guarantee that it will satisfy both your eyes, your stomach and your soul :)We stayed at a spot very close to Tigaki Beach, 7km from the center of the island, with a close group of friends, without moving around much, with little movement and lots of energy. The ruins of the Agios Stefanos church, located on another corner of the island, are also worth seeing. The church takes its name from St. Stefanos, as you know, the first martyr of Christianity. If you go to this area where there are ruins from both the Byzantine and Roman periods, you can also follow the tradition of swimming and ringing the bells. This ritual is as follows; There is a small St. Nicholas Chapel on an island right across from the beach of the same name next to the Agios Stefanos church. This chapel is built on the top of the small islet in the middle of the sea. People usually swim from the beach to this small island and those who reach the island ring the bell in the chapel. Ringing the bell, as you know, usually means some kind of prayer, wish or thanks. But please do not perform this ritual during the midday sun, if we add the 100-150 meters of going and a return, the prayers can turn into bad prayers :)

In short, no matter where you are, the sea-sand-sun trio makes you happy and makes you smile. In the center of the island, there is a beautiful Agora square, shops where you can shop and nice restaurants. If you have time, unfortunately we could not go because our focus was different, but you can visit the Antimachia castle, which was built in the Middle Ages and offers panoramic views.
In short, wherever you are, the sea-sand-sun trio makes you happy and puts a smile on your face. I hope it can guide you if you ever lose your way...
Cheers,
Betty.
